Amazon's Virtual Health Clinic Now Accessible Nationwide

Amazon Clinic, an online healthcare marketplace established by internet giant Amazon, has opened its services to the entire United States. Customers in all 50 states and Washington, D.C., can now access licensed clinicians for teleconsultations on over 30 common health issues, including pink eye and urinary tract infections.

Amazon Clinic, a virtual healthcare marketplace, has expanded its services to customers across America. Offering video consultations for common health concerns paves the way for increased access to healthcare.

A New Portal for Telemedicine

Launched in November 2022, Amazon Clinic serves as a conduit between users and healthcare providers rather than providing healthcare services directly. Users can access the platform through the Amazon website or mobile app to compare response times and prices from various telehealth provider groups. After completing an intake form, customers can then connect with their selected provider.

Customized Healthcare Experience

Depending on their location, customers can connect with clinicians through Amazon Clinic's secure messaging portal or video call without needing an appointment or insurance. Clinicians will provide a recommended treatment plan that may include a prescription. Customers can fill their medication at Amazon Pharmacy with free shipping or at a pharmacy of their choice. Dr. Nworah Ayogu, the chief medical officer and general manager at Amazon Clinic, wanted to make healthcare more accessible by creating a transparent and straightforward healthcare experience. Amazon Clinic aims to expand its services and offer treatment for more conditions in the coming months.

Amazon's Healthcare Endeavors

Amazon has been making significant strides in the healthcare industry over the years. Besides launching Amazon Clinic, the company started and closed down a telehealth service called Amazon Care. Furthermore, Amazon recently completed a $3.9 billion acquisition of healthcare provider OneMedical and launched Amazon Pharmacy following its acquisition of PillPack.

In 2018, Amazon partnered with JP Morgan and Berkshire Hathaway to create an employee healthcare operation led by a high-profile doctor. However, this service did not materialize as anticipated and shut down in 2021. Despite these setbacks, Amazon continues its foray into telehealth with Amazon Clinic, a marketplace for third-party virtual consultants.
