Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is a molecule of two long strands twisted together to form a double helix shape. The molecule contains genetic information responsible for all living organisms and viruses' development, growth, functioning, and reproduction. DNA and ribonucleic acid (RNA) are both nucleic acids. These, along with proteins, lipids, and complex carbohydrates, are the four main macromolecules necessary for life in all known forms.
