The Overheating Controversy Surrounding the iPhone 15 Pro
Apple's recent iPhone 15 Pro is garnering attention from consumers and critics alike, not for its advanced features, but due to reports of an unexpected issue - overheating. The newest iPhone 15 Pro is making waves, but not all for the right reasons. Users worldwide report that their brand-new phones are overheating regularly, raising concerns about the device's performance and safety.
Reported Incidents of Overheating
Reports began surfacing soon after the iPhone 15 Pro and its larger counterpart, the 15 Pro Max, were launched on September 22. Owners of the new devices started to notice that while performing routine tasks such as filming 4K video clips or conducting brief FaceTime calls, the phones became noticeably hot. Tech content creator Mohit Verma wrote on the social media site X that he experienced this issue within a few minutes of usage, something he had not encountered with any previous phone.
Apple's Response and Possible Causes
Apple has yet to respond to these claims officially. Still, it is noteworthy that the company mentions on its support page that newer devices may feel warmer than usual during the initial setup. This could be a plausible explanation for some of the reports, especially considering that the iPhone 15 Pro was recently launched. However, many tech enthusiasts must be convinced this is the primary cause.
Robert Triggs, a senior editor for the smartphone enthusiast website Android Authority, conducted a comparison test between the iPhone 15 Pro and rival devices from Samsung and Google. His tests revealed that the iPhone ran significantly hotter while recording 4K video and performing graphically intense tasks. These findings suggest that the new A17 Pro chipset in the iPhone 15 Pro could be a contributing factor. Additionally, the new look and internal redesign of the iPhone 15 Pro, which includes titanium to reduce weight, may also play a role in the overheating issue, as TF Securities International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo proposed.
Potential Solutions
Several measures can be taken to control the temperature for those already owning an iPhone 15 Pro and experiencing this issue. These include enabling low power mode, which turns off certain features and reduces the performance of the iPhone's CPU and GPU, and turning off background activity for some apps. However, these are only temporary solutions.
The onus of resolving this problem fundamentally lies with Apple. While the company's plans remain unclear, Kuo suggests software updates might be in the pipeline. However, the effectiveness of these updates is likely if Apple is willing to compromise on the speed of its processors.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
