Vivante Corporation was a semiconductor company with no manufacturing facilities and was headquartered in Sunnyvale, California. It also had a research and development center in Shanghai, China. The company was founded in 2004 as GiQuila and initially focused on the portable gaming market. It started by developing a graphics processing unit (GPU) compatible with DirectX and capable of playing PC games. In 2007, GiQuila changed its name to Vivante and shifted its focus to designing and licensing embedded graphics processing unit designs. The company licensed its Mobile Visual Reality technology to semiconductor solution providers, who used it to serve embedded computing markets such as mobile gaming, high-definition home entertainment, image processing, and automotive display and entertainment.
